Two women among five Indians arrested in Dubai for theft

DUBAI: Five Indians, including two women, who had been arrested for theft in
Dubai, were produced before the court yesterday.
One of them has been accused of allegedly stealing 150 scaffoldings worth
Dh5,000 from his employer with the help of two compatriots.
The company for which they were working reported on September 23 last that two
workers identified as JM and RH and an unidentified person were found loading
scaffoldings in a pickup vehicle that did not carry the company's name.
A witness had taken a picture of them and sent it to the company's project
manager, according to Emirates 24|7 news.
The police on a complaint arrested the three Indians and the matter has come up
before the court. The court will reconvene on November 22.
In another incident, two Indian women have been charged with shop-lifting from a
Dubai garment shop. The two women, aged 20 and 25, allegedly entered a fitting
room in a shop for branded garments last month and stole 10 pieces after
removing the security tags.
A complaint was lodged against the women, identified as MR and NA, with the
police after which they were arrested. The two were also presented before the
court on Sunday.
Indians constitute about 30 per cent of UAE's total population.

DUBAI: Dubai will have 400 more air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned bus
shelters in the next two years. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has
awarded the contract for the project to Right Angle Media. There will be wi-fi
facility also. The project will be operated by Right Angle Media, a company that
also operates the existing bus shelters. To be operated on the public-private-
partnership model, the project will bring the total number of bus shelters in Dubai

DUBAI: Women of New Dubai are feeling unsafe as unidentified men are stalking
them, according to complaints to the police. According to Gulf News, residents of
Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) have raised concerns on social media about the
stalkers, claiming they have been followed them while walking their dogs or
running errands. It has also been brought to public that the stalkers follow women
by driving slowly behind them in their tinted SUVs.

championship’s final. Ten Olympic sailing categories will compete with an open

|Ashura day to be observed on Saturday|
ABU DHABI: The fatwa issued by the Islamic affairs authority cited a number of
Hadith about fasting on Ashura day. The day of Ashura (Muharram 10) will be
observed on Saturday (October 24) as the new Hijri year, Muharram 1, 1437, began
on Thursday (October 15), according to an edict issued here on Thursday by the
Centre of Fatwa of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Awqaf. The fatwa
issued by the Islamic affairs authority cited a number of Hadith about fasting on
Ashura day. "Fasting on the Ashura day is atonement for sins," said the dictum.
