Air India Muscat flight has emergency landing at Delhi airport after takeoff

In yet another incident of narrow escape for an Air India plane, a Muscat-bound flight, with 80 passengers on board, made emergency landing at the IGIA soon after taking off, due to technical fault.
NEW DELHI: A Muscat-bound Air India flight, with 80 passengers on board, made emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi just after taking off due to technical fault on Sunday.

The flight, which developed a hydraulic problem, however, landed safely. The pilot brought back the aircraft after being airborne for some time.

"The aircraft, an Airbus A319, landed safely at around 8:45 pm. All the 80 passengers also deplaned safely," an Air India spokesperson was quoted as saying.

The flight (AI 973) had departed from Delhi's IGIA airport at 7.40 pm on Sunday and returned at around 8.45 pm after the pilot detected the hydraulic leak.

An alternative aircraft was arranged to ferry the passengers to their destination, Muscat, shortly. The flight landed at the Muscat International Airport at 1:10 am on Monday.

AI operates an Airbus 320 on the Delhi-Muscat route. It can fly 150 passengers. However, due to some issues, "We operated the Airbus 319 on that route on Monday, which can accommodate up to 120 passengers,” an AI official said.

Earlier, on Thursday, Air India’s Varanasi to Delhi flight (AI 433) with 133 passengers made an emergency landing due to technical snag in the engine.

On September 7, an Airbus A320 on the sector (AI 405) made an emergency landing at Delhi airport following same hydraulic leak. The passengers were evacuated after smoke was detected in the rear tyre.
