While in Tunisia the indiscriminate firing on tourists, mostly from Europe, at a beachside resort in Sousse claimed about 40 lives, the suicide bombing in a Shia mosque in Kuwait killed 25 people at their prayers. In the attack on a US factory in France, one person was beheaded. The attacks are suspected to have been carried out by ISIS
terrorists.
Three people have been arrested in Kuwait for alleged involvement in the mosque attack.
The management of the Imperial Marhaba hotel said most of their 565 guests were from England and central Europe. It is reported that there was only one gunman involved in the shooting. He was also killed.
The suicide bomber in Kuwait City blew himself up in the packed mosque during Friday prayers. This is the first attack of its king in the oil-rich Gulf country. The ISIS militant group reportedly owned responsibility for the terrorist attack in
Kuwait. Around 200 people were also injured in the attack that took place in the eastern part of the city in the district of Sawaber.
The worshippers were in their kneeling posture during the Friday prayers when the bomber sneaked in to the prayer hall of the Imam-al-Sadeq mosque. The powerful explosives blasted the walls and the ceiling of the mosque as well. From
the looks of the body, the bomber was in his 20s. Over 2000 people from the Shia Jaafari sect were at their prayers at the time.
The Daesh-affiliated group in Saudi Arabia, calling itself Najd Province, said militant Abu Suleiman Al Muwahed bombed the mosque which it claimed was spreading Shia teachings among Muslims, according to Khaleej Times.
Recently, Kuwaiti courts had tried a number of people on charges of belonging to Daesh and sentenced at least one to several years in jail, the report said. Although there were no terrorist incidents in the recent past, the Government had tightened security because of incidents in neighbouring Saudi Arabia
The Islamic Constitutional Movement (ICM), political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, Islamic Salaf Alliance and the Islamic Salaf Alliance have all strongly deplored the terrorist attack on the Kuwait mosque
Shias comprise some 25 per cent of Kuwait's 1.3 million people. In the Sunni Muslim Arab State of Kuwait City, both the Shias and the majority Sunnis are known to live together without any conflicts.
